Dongjak-gu's Traditional Korean Medicine Home Care Service for Seniors Receives 'Positive Reviews'

Home Visits by Korean Medicine Doctors for Diagnosis, Prescription, and Disease Management Receive Positive Community Response

Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) has been implementing the ‘Elderly Oriental Medical Care Project’ for seniors with mobility difficulties since July, receiving great responses.

This project involves doctors of Korean medicine from 29 local clinics in Dongjak-gu, which have signed agreements with the district, visiting the homes of seniors aged 65 and older to provide services such as examinations, health consultations, and disease management.

The suitability for home visits is ultimately determined by the Korean medicine clinics, and if selected as a project participant, the patient’s co-payment for 8 to 12 home visit treatments is fully supported by the district.

For those whom the Korean medicine doctor deems necessary to take herbal medicine, the cost of herbal decoctions is also supported.

According to the district, as of August, more than 80 seniors are receiving medical care services.

A senior resident from Sangdo-dong who has been receiving the service since July said, “I had difficulty even sitting due to swollen legs, but after the Korean medicine doctor visited my home and administered acupuncture, I feel my body recovering,” expressing gratitude to Clinic A and the district office.

Going forward, the district plans to continue providing home visit Oriental medical care services to seniors in need.

Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, stated, “We will implement welfare that empowers seniors so that vulnerable elderly who are sick and marginalized can enjoy a happy old age within the community.”
