Only 26% Respond 'Sufficient' to Japanese Government's Explanation on Contaminated Water Discharge

Nearly half of the Japanese public positively evaluated the Japanese government's commencement of the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

According to a telephone survey conducted by Mainichi Shimbun from the 26th to 27th, targeting 1,039 adults aged 18 and over (valid respondents), 49% of respondents viewed the start of the contaminated water discharge into the ocean positively. Negative responses accounted for 29%.


When asked whether the Japanese government and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) had provided sufficient explanations regarding the ocean discharge, 60% answered "insufficient," while only 26% responded "sufficient."
