Gangbuk-gu Improves Urban Aesthetics with Design-Enhanced Construction Site Temporary Fences

Preparation of 16 Tent Fence Designs Including Basic, Policy, and Regional Symbol Types

Gangbuk-gu Improves Urban Aesthetics with Design-Enhanced Construction Site Temporary Fences

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that it has established a new "Construction Site Temporary Fence Guideline" for the 8th term of the local government, which has been implemented since August.

Temporary fences are walls temporarily installed between pedestrian roads and construction sites during the construction period to ensure pedestrian safety and block traffic. The district has prepared this temporary fence design guideline to improve the urban landscape and construction site environment using temporary fences, and furthermore, to enhance the efficiency of district promotion with designs reflecting the characteristics of Gangbuk-gu.

The design types according to the guideline include a total of 16: 7 "Basic types" applying Gangbuk-gu slogans and logos, 3 "Policy types" guiding district goals and policies, and 6 "Regional symbol types" utilizing district symbols such as Uicheon Stream and Bonghwanggak. They are classified into full-face and partial types according to installation standards.

The district applies this guideline to all construction sites within Gangbuk-gu, including private constructions, by imposing it as a condition for building permits. Building owners must submit a temporary fence installation plan complying with the guideline at least 7 days before construction starts, and within 30 days after construction, submit photos of the completed temporary fence installation to the district’s Architecture Division (Urban Landscape Team).

Additionally, for construction sites where temporary fences were installed before the guideline was established, the district plans to replace existing fences with new designs, focusing on large construction sites.

Temporary fences are applied differently in terms of installation standards, height, material, and recommended design depending on road conditions based on a road width of 20 meters. Detailed information about the guideline can be found on the Gangbuk-gu website.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “We established this guideline to brighten the bleak atmosphere around construction sites and improve the quality of life for residents,” adding, “We will ensure residents’ safety and improve the urban aesthetics with the improved temporary fences.”
