Professor Kim Yongcheol of Yongin Severance Hospital Awarded Best Oral Presentation at Japanese Society of Cardiovascular Intervention and Therapeutics

Yonsei University College of Medicine's Yongin Severance Hospital announced on the 23rd that Professor Kim Yong-cheol of the Cardiology Department won the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 31st Japanese Cardiovascular Intervention Society held in Fukuoka, Japan, from the 4th to the 6th.

Professor Kim Yong-cheol presented research comparing the preventive effects on radial artery spasm of nitroglycerin-only solution and nitroglycerin-verapamil mixed solution, which are vasodilators used in the minimally invasive cardiac vascular procedure known as the "snuffbox approach."

Professor Kim said, "I have been actively researching the snuffbox approach since the early days of my practice, and I received this award for research conducted solely at Yongin Severance Hospital." He added, "Based on this award, I will actively engage with doctors overseas, including those in Japan, to ensure that Yongin Severance Hospital becomes a key center for international multicenter research related to the snuffbox approach."

The snuffbox approach specialist team at Yongin Severance Hospital's Cardiology Department, consisting of Professors Kim Yong-cheol, Lee Oh-hyun, and Noh Ji-woong, performs aggressive procedures on acute myocardial infarction patients requiring emergency cardiac vascular intervention, based on thousands of cases of extensive procedural experience. In particular, by leveraging the greatest advantage of the snuffbox approach?'minimizing procedural site complications through minimal incision'?they perform most cardiac vascular procedures with only a 2mm incision on the back of the hand, helping improve patient outcomes.

Meanwhile, the Japanese Cardiovascular Intervention Society is a large-scale international cardiovascular intervention society in Japan. This year, about 6,800 cardiologists and thoracic surgeons from around the world participated to share the latest insights in cardiology and present recent research findings.
