Geumcheon-gu, the District Council, Companies, Organizations, and Residents Achieve Together
New Regular Donors Increase by More Than 100 Compared to the Previous Year
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the scholarship fund of the Geumcheon Future Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Park Joon-sik, hereafter the Foundation) has exceeded 5 billion KRW as of the end of July.
The Foundation's scholarship fund was 3.7 billion KRW as of the end of 2022. Geumcheon-gu, with the consent of the District Council in the first half of this year, granted 1 billion KRW to the Foundation. The Foundation also received 600 million KRW in donations from local companies and residents, securing a total scholarship fund of 5.3 billion KRW as of the end of July 2023.
To expand the scholarship fund, Mayor Yu Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu and Chairman Park Joon-sik took the lead in donations. Local organizations and businesspeople also followed with continuous support. More than 100 new regular donors joined.
To revitalize scholarship projects, the Foundation launched the ‘Geumcheon Future Talent Development Pan-District Promotion Committee’ in May. The committee consists of 156 members, including local residents, G-Valley companies, and heads of private organizations. The committee members collect residents’ opinions on scholarship projects and explore the direction the Foundation should take.
To enhance donor appreciation, the Foundation presents a ‘Golden Keeper’ plaque to companies that make regular donations of 200,000 KRW or more per month.
The Foundation plans to diversify scholarship selection fields and increase the number of scholarship recipients. This year, a new ‘Academic Improvement’ scholarship was established. Not only students with excellent grades but also those who make efforts can receive scholarships. Additionally, to help youth grow as future leaders, a new overseas training program called ‘Exciting Career Exploration’ was introduced.
Chairman Park Joon-sik stated, “We will actively carry out scholarship projects so that talents born and raised in the region can take root in the community.”
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu expressed, “I sincerely thank the residents and businesspeople who have built the monumental ‘5 billion KRW scholarship fund’ and consistently support the Foundation. The district will also implement various educational policies to nurture future talents.”
