From B2C Services to B2B Solutions
Building a Generative AI Ecosystem... Strengthening Platform Competitiveness
Naver has presented a roadmap for generative artificial intelligence (AI) services ahead of the launch of its next-generation large language model (LLM). The company aims to open a new growth phase with generative AI by building an AI ecosystem that spans from business-to-consumer (B2C) services to business-to-business (B2B) solutions.
On the 21st, Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon sent a CEO shareholder letter outlining these plans. This was shared ahead of the 'Team Naver Conference Dan 23' on the 24th, where Naver will unveil its self-developed LLM, 'HyperCLOVA X.'
CEO Choi assessed that the emergence of generative AI has brought Naver its fourth major turning point. This follows the first turning point when Naver challenged the search market, the second when it transitioned to mobile, and the third when it entered the e-commerce market, marking another significant change.
To turn this new turning point into an opportunity, Naver will introduce various generative AI services. First, it will strengthen the competitiveness of core applications, including search. 'Q:' is a representative example, embedding generative AI into Naver's search service. Conversational AI will also expand to other Naver services through 'CLOVA X.' For instance, if a user requests, "Please recommend an outdoor restaurant to visit with my child on the weekend," the AI can book the recommended restaurant via 'Naver Place' or provide directions through 'Naver Map.' The connecting element is the plugin called 'Skill.' Plugins connect third-party apps to HyperCLOVA X as if plugging a cord into an outlet.
CLOVA X is also utilized as a productivity tool for partners active on Naver’s platform, such as sellers, creators, and influencers. First, 'CLOVA for Writing' is an AI writing tool that combines HyperCLOVA X with Naver’s content creation tool, Smart Editor. It recommends good writing topics, drafts appropriate content based on selected keywords, and helps edit users’ writing into better expressions. Naver will also introduce 'Connect X,' a platform for enterprises that assists with report writing, email drafting, and collaborative work by leveraging internal company data.
Solutions targeting companies that want to use AI in a customized way are also offered. These solutions enable easy integration with small sample data and meet specific needs. 'CLOVA Studio' is a solution that allows companies to create and fine-tune HyperCLOVA X models exclusively for their own use. Various tunings are possible using specialized internal data. Supporting this is 'NeuroCloud,' a customized cloud for enterprises. It installs the server infrastructure that runs HyperCLOVA X inside the client’s data center, providing a security advantage.
CEO Choi emphasized, "We are fully prepared to embrace the new change called AI," adding, "Since Naver is a business channel incomparable to any other platform, we will be able to further solidify our competitive edge with AI."
