'Oppenheimer' Tops Box Office with 770,000 Viewers on Opening Weekend

'Concrete Utopia' Ranks 2nd with 480,000 Viewers

Director Christopher Nolan's film 'Oppenheimer' topped the box office in its opening weekend.


According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticket sales network on the 21st, 'Oppenheimer' attracted 773,089 viewers over the three-day weekend (18th-20th), securing the number one spot at the box office. Since its release on the 15th, it has recorded a cumulative audience of 1,591,854.

'Oppenheimer' is a film about the life of American physicist Julius Robert Oppenheimer, surpassing 1 million viewers in just 5 days.


In second place was the disaster film 'Concrete Utopia' (director Eom Tae-hwa), starring Lee Byung-hun, which drew 480,645 viewers. Released on the 9th, it has accumulated 2,790,913 viewers.


As the last of the summer big four releases, attention is on whether this film will surpass the break-even point (3.8 million viewers) following 'Mil-su'.


The two Korean films released on Liberation Day, the 15th, received disappointing results. The romantic comedy 'Daljjakjigeunhae: 7510' (director Lee Han), starring Yoo Hae-jin, attracted 245,191 viewers, ranking third. Its cumulative audience is 457,095.


'The Protector', directed by Jung Woo-sung and released on the same day, drew 35,160 viewers, placing seventh.


Director Ryu Seung-wan's 'Mil-su' continues to steadily attract audiences. It gathered 144,481 viewers over the weekend, ranking fourth, with a cumulative total of 4,776,814 viewers.


The total number of moviegoers visiting theaters over the weekend was 1,912,538.
