540 million KRW allocated for livelihood economic support projects for small business owners and vulnerable employment groups
Enhancing residents' safety through thorough disaster preparedness against typhoons, cold waves, and more
Final approval on September 13 after review and resolution by the District Council starting August 29
Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Junhee) has prepared the first supplementary budget proposal totaling 67.3 billion KRW and submitted it to the Gwanak District Council on August 18.
Amid difficult fiscal conditions expected due to uncertainties in the domestic and international economic environment, reductions in local tax revenues caused by lowered official land prices and decreased transactions, the district has worked hard to maintain sound fiscal management by restructuring expenditures of underperforming projects to secure resources for this budget proposal.
The main directions for the budget formulation were set as ▲ revitalizing the local economy ▲ resolving residents' inconveniences and strengthening safety ▲ supporting resident welfare ▲ and projects to reinforce administrative functions, focusing the budget intensively on projects that residents can directly feel.
First, the district prioritized supporting the recovery of the depressed livelihood economy by allocating a total of 5.4 billion KRW. In the second half of the year, it plans to provide public jobs to about 1,000 vulnerable employment individuals, and will implement various local economic revitalization support policies such as the Gwanak-style Artterior project, support for revitalizing alleyway commercial districts, and the establishment of a small and medium enterprise development fund to assist small business owners struggling due to the continuous consumption slowdown after COVID-19.
In particular, to revive the Sillim Station commercial district, which has been depressed due to recent criminal incidents, the district will invest 1.1 billion KRW from its budget to issue Gwanak Love Gift Certificates and special gift certificates for the Sillim Station commercial district, supporting consumption activation among local residents to stimulate the economy. As a result, the district will issue a total of 40 billion KRW worth of local love gift certificates this year alone.
The district also spares no support to ensure residents enjoy a pleasant and safe living environment. It has allocated funds for projects such as ▲ improving pedestrian environments on Cheongnim Eoullim-gil ▲ improving access roads to the Misung-dong Civil Defense Education Center ▲ feasibility study expenses for establishing new village bus routes to resolve residents' living environment inconveniences, as well as disaster prevention and damage recovery support projects and disaster management funds to protect residents safely from disasters.
Additionally, a total of 8.6 billion KRW has been allocated to build a detailed welfare support system across life cycles, including improving childcare facility environments, supporting daycare center operations and heating/cooling costs, supporting youth facility consignment operations, operating dementia relief centers, constructing a comprehensive senior welfare town (tentative name), and maintaining senior citizen centers.
The submitted first supplementary budget proposal will undergo review and resolution by the Gwanak District Council starting August 29 and is expected to be finalized on September 13.
Park Junhee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “I prepared the budget hoping it would help stabilize residents' lives even a little amid difficult economic conditions. Once the budget is approved, we will swiftly implement the projects to create a Gwanak-gu where both residents and small business owners can be happy and safe.”
