Forest Experience and Coding Classes Operate During Vacations to Address Care Gaps
On the 17th, Pohang City opened the 4th Dahamkke Care Center, "Songdo Happiness Village Care Center," which provides care services, academic guidance, and various special activities for elementary school children who need after-school care.
On the 17th, Pohang City opened the 4th Dahamkke Care Center, 'Songdo Happy Village Care Center,' and held a plaque ceremony.
At the opening ceremony, attended by Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok and members of local organizations, a plaque ceremony was held for the Songdo Happiness Village Care Center, celebrating the opening of the care center for children.
The Songdo Happiness Village Care Center is located on the first floor of the Pohang Family Happiness Center and is operated by the nonprofit organization Hyosilcheon (CEO Lee Kyung-ha) under consignment.
It operates for elementary school children who need after-school care regardless of income level, such as children from dual-income families. Operating hours are from 2 PM to 8 PM during the school term and from 9 AM to 6 PM during vacations.
In particular, the Songdo Happiness Village Care Center is geographically near Songdo Solbat, providing forest experience activities for students, and offers various special activities such as physical education, science exploration classes, coding lessons, and etiquette classes. It also supports free meals through children's shuttle vehicle services and sponsorship from Tea Party Wedding.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, "With the opening of the Songdo Happiness Village Care Center, we expect to not only fill the after-school care gap for elementary students in the Songdo area but also provide a safe haven for children. We will do our best to operate a solid care program for the children who will be responsible for Pohang's future."
Pohang City first established the Guryongpo Kkureogi Village Care Center in 2019, the first in Gyeongbuk Province, followed by the Uhyeon Pungnim Village Care Center in 2021, the Yeonil Sunshine Village Care Center in 2022, and then opened the Songdo Happiness Village Care Center. This year, the Dream Catching Village Care Center (located in Heunghae-eup) also opened and is currently operating.
Along with this, following the revision of the "Regulations on Housing Construction Standards," installation of Dahamkke Care Centers in resident community facilities has been made mandatory for new apartment complexes with 500 or more households that applied for project plan approval after 2021. Accordingly, Pohang City plans to continuously expand community-centered Dahamkke Care Centers.
