Democratic Party Incheon City Chapter Launches Basic Social Committee and Fukushima Contaminated Water Ocean Dumping Prevention Task Force

The Incheon City Party Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea held the launching ceremony for the Basic Society Committee and the Fukushima Nuclear Wastewater Marine Dumping Prevention Countermeasures Committee on the 17th, marking the start of their full-scale activities.

The launching ceremony was attended by National Assembly members Woo Won-sik, Jung Il-young, and Lee Dong-joo, local committee chair Cho Taek-sang, acting local committee chair Lee Byung-rae, metropolitan and basic council members, and about 200 party members.

The City Party Basic Society Committee is a direct organization under Party Leader Lee Jae-myung to support his 'Basic Society' vision, focusing on four major tasks: basic income, finance, housing, and the realization of basic rights for the Eul (乙) class. It plans to establish detailed strategies to implement Incheon-type livelihood policies tailored to regional characteristics.

Jung Il-young, Chair of the City Party Basic Society Committee, emphasized, "As competition for survival intensifies, we must move toward a basic society where a minimum humane life is guaranteed. Let us all put our heads together to create a society that can resolve inequality and polarization and ensure basic income, basic housing, and the protection of basic rights."

Additionally, the City Party Fukushima Nuclear Wastewater Marine Dumping Prevention Countermeasures Committee plans to work with citizens and party members to oppose Japan's unilateral marine dumping of Fukushima nuclear wastewater, prepare institutional alternatives to protect the lives of Incheon citizens and the safety of our seafood, and fully cooperate with the Central Party's General Countermeasures Committee to prevent marine dumping of contaminated water.

Heo Jong-sik, Chair of the Countermeasures Committee, stated, "Protecting the lives and safety of the people is the state's responsibility, but seeing the government's attitude contrary to the people's concerns, it is hard to understand which country's president this is. We will do everything possible to protect the safety of Incheon citizens."
