On the 14th, Hwasun County in Jeollanam-do announced that it conducted 'Dementia Partner' training for 83 on-site police officers at the Hwasun Police Station.
Dementia Partners are warm companions who understand and care for dementia patients and their families based on an understanding of dementia. Anyone from elementary school age and above can become a Dementia Partner through training provided by the Dementia Safety Center.
This training covered topics such as ▲What kind of disease is dementia? ▲I want to understand dementia patients ▲How does the government manage dementia? and was designed to enhance basic understanding and improve awareness of dementia.
An official from the county stated, “This training will help improve negative perceptions of dementia and increase understanding of elderly dementia patients,” adding, “We will continue to actively engage in activities to overcome dementia.”
Meanwhile, there are 2,713 registered Dementia Partners at the Hwasun County Dementia Safety Center. In addition, five leading organizations for dementia overcoming and three dementia-friendly affiliated stores have been designated, taking the lead in creating a dementia-friendly environment.
