Songpa-gu (Mayor Seogang-seok) announced that it invited the World Scout Jamboree participants staying in Songpa-gu after camping at Saemangeum to experience the culture and history of Songpa by attending the special Liberation Day commemorative musical 'Kim Maria.'

Due to the northward movement of a typhoon, Jamboree scouts from three countries left their campsite and have been staying at two hotels in the district (Olympic Parktel and Songpa Park Habio) from August 9 to 13.

They are over 300 youths from Taiwan, Norway, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Accordingly, the district invited these foreign youths visiting Songpa-gu to the musical 'Kim Maria,' which portrays the life of female independence activist Kim Maria, to inform them about Korean culture and the history of the independence movement during the Japanese colonial period.

The musical was performed at Seoul Nori Madang (124 Jamsil-ro) at 7 PM on August 12 and 13, coinciding with the conclusion of the Jamboree schedule.

To facilitate understanding of the performance content at a glance for the scouts gathered from around the world, the district produced an English leaflet. The leaflet, containing a special invitation message from Seogang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, performance information, and the achievements of Kim Maria, was distributed to the Jamboree scouts staying at the hotels.

Additionally, English leaflets were placed at the Tourist Information Center within Seokchon Lake. This was carefully prepared so that the World Jamboree scouts visiting Lotte World and Seokchon Lake could access musical information at the center near the performance venue and naturally proceed to the theater.

Seogang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, who is a traditional bureaucrat having passed the civil service exam and served as Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Finance Bureau while directing plays since his university days and is also a poet and novelist, said, “I sincerely welcome the World Scout Jamboree participants visiting Songpa-gu. I hope youths from around the world will watch this meaningful performance depicting the life of Kim Maria, a great educator and independence activist of Korea, create precious memories, and return to their home countries.”

The special 78th Liberation Day musical 'Kim Maria' is an original musical depicting the life and achievements of Kim Maria, a martyr and alumna of Jeongsin Girls' School (currently Jeongsin Girls' Middle School, located in Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu). It was hosted and organized by ‘700,000 Songpa Musical Making’ and supported by Songpa-gu, Songpa Cultural Foundation, the Kim Maria Memorial Association, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
