Investigation Ongoing into Possible Violations of the Serious Accident Punishment Act

The police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor launched an investigation into the companies involved in the 'Anseong New Construction Site Collapse Accident,' which resulted in 6 casualties on the 9th. On the 11th, the Anseong Commercial Building Collapse Accident Investigation Task Force of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency, together with the Ministry of Employment and Labor, conducted a search and seizure at eight locations, including Kiseong Construction located in Osan-si, Gyeonggi-do, the construction company, the project developer, subcontractors, and design and supervision firms. The purpose was to secure construction-related materials such as design drawings, construction documents, and work logs.

The investigation team also imposed travel bans on six key suspects. Earlier, immediately after the accident, the police formed a 49-member dedicated investigation team centered on the Violent Crime Investigation Unit of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency. If deemed responsible for the accident, charges of professional negligence resulting in death or injury will be applied. The Ministry of Employment and Labor is also investigating whether the construction company violated the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. The site in question involves construction costs exceeding 5 billion KRW, making it subject to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.


Meanwhile, the accident occurred around 11:49 a.m. on the 9th at a new construction site for a neighborhood living facility in Oksan-dong, Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, resulting in 2 deaths and 4 injuries. The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Construction Union claims that the accident was caused by the unsafe deck plate construction method and a rush to speed up the work. The autopsy results of the deceased Vietnamese nationals A (30) and B (22) indicated brain damage due to trauma and asphyxiation, according to the National Forensic Service.
