A member in his 60s of a May 18-related organization has been prosecuted for sexually abusive insults directed at the director of the May Mothers' House.
The Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office's Women and Children Crime Investigation Division (Chief Prosecutor Kang Jeong-young) announced on the 11th that A (62, former executive), a member of the May 18 Democratic Movement Victims Association, was indicted without detention on charges including violation of the Sexual Violence Punishment Act (obscenity using communication media).
A is accused of repeatedly sending 44 messages in one day on January 11 via social networking services (SNS) to the director of the May Mothers' House, causing sexual shame or anxiety.
It is reported that A became angry after the director of the May Mothers' House posted a critical message about him in a group chat room of another May 18 organization.
A prosecution official stated, "We will strive to maintain the prosecution so that the defendant receives punishment commensurate with the crime," adding, "We will also do our best to protect the victim, including providing psychological counseling support for the victim's mental stability."
The May Mothers' House is an organization composed of mothers and wives who lost family members or were injured themselves during the martial law army's suppression in May 1980.
