Park Dae-chul, the Policy Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, announced on the 11th that he would name the basic direction of next year's budget as the so-called '4 Guardians' budget and plan the budget allocation in consultation with the Ministry of Economy and Finance focusing on this.

At the party floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the same day, Chairman Park said, "The government must make bold investments to protect the vulnerable, ensure the safety of the people, safeguard future generations, and protect the economy through job creation." The 4 Guardians budget consists of ▲welfare for the vulnerable ▲safety ▲future generations ▲jobs.

The ruling party and the government have recently held several working-level consultations regarding next year's budget. Although the Ministry of Economy and Finance usually briefs the National Assembly just before submitting the budget proposal at the end of August, this time they decided to have close discussions between the party and the government starting from the budget formulation direction.

Chairman Park stated, "Even though the budget formulation last year shifted to a sound fiscal policy, remnants of the past such as fiscal omnipotence, dividing shares, handouts, and support for vested interest cartels still remain scattered throughout the budget." He added, "We will thoroughly eliminate wasteful expenditures in areas such as private organizations and labor unions where fraud and corruption were detected, unclear subsidies, social enterprises, local currencies, and hastily implemented projects like New Deal and solar power that showed no results." He emphasized, "The resources secured through this will be focused on the 4 Guardians budget."

He said, "In a situation where the future is unpredictable, the most important thing for the People Power Party is to protect the socially vulnerable and safety and to create jobs," and mentioned, "The government also responded positively and agreed to allocate next year's budget accordingly."
