'First in the Seoul Metropolitan Area' Seongnam Municipal Animal Hospital to Open in September

'First in the Seoul Metropolitan Area' Seongnam Municipal Animal Hospital to Open in September Seongnam City Hall

The first municipal animal hospital in the Seoul metropolitan area will open in Seongnam City this September.

Seongnam City announced on the 11th that it plans to open a municipal animal hospital on the basement first floor of the Sujeong Community Center in Sujin-dong, Sujeong-gu, covering an area of 145.3㎡. The hospital will support medical care for pets of vulnerable groups, treat abandoned animals, and monitor and prevent zoonotic diseases (such as rabies).

The municipal animal hospital will consist of examination rooms, a pharmacy, a clinical pathology room, a treatment room, an operating room, inpatient rooms (for dogs and cats), an X-ray room, a consultation and reception area, and a waiting room. It will be located on the same floor as the Seongnam Pet Care Center, which currently operates for pet education and adoption of abandoned animals, creating a synergy effect by concentrating pet-related facilities.

The operating staff will include two veterinarians responsible for examinations and treatments and three animal health technicians assisting with surgeries.

The medical services will be provided to ▲pets owned by recipients and near-poverty groups under the National Basic Livelihood Security Act ▲pets owned by persons with disabilities under the Welfare of Disabled Persons Act ▲pets owned by seniors aged 65 and older ▲and abandoned animals.

The consultation fees will be discounted by 50-70% depending on the patient, based on the average prices of nearby animal hospitals.

Shin Sang-jin, Mayor of Seongnam City, stated, "Through the operation of the municipal animal hospital, we will reduce the burden of medical expenses for pets of vulnerable groups and move toward becoming a hopeful city where all Seongnam citizens can raise pets without financial worries."
