The Community Security Council of Geumcheon-myeon, Naju-si, Jeollanam-do rolled up their sleeves to help a solitary elderly person living in poor housing conditions amid the heatwave.
Geumcheon-myeon recently announced on the 10th that, as part of a welfare-specialized project, the Community Security Council and the Welfare Mobile Unit visited the household of Elder Namo residing in Ogang 1-ri village to carry out housing environment improvement volunteer work.
The target household had been without electricity for several months, and due to physical and cognitive decline, abandoned furniture, home appliances, and food waste causing foul odors had been left unattended inside and outside the house for a long time, creating an urgent situation in need of assistance.
The volunteers cleaned the house by disposing of spoiled food in the broken refrigerator, repairing the electricity, conducting pest control and disinfection, collecting discarded furniture, and replacing worn and torn flooring to provide a comfortable home.
Mr. Na said, “I had kept all these items thinking I might use them someday, but seeing the house clean after the cleaning makes me feel both sorry and grateful,” with an embarrassed smile.
Choi Yoonim, head of Geumcheon-myeon, expressed gratitude, saying, “I thank the Community Security Council members and Welfare Mobile Unit workers who dedicated themselves to helping neighbors in need despite the hot weather,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to pay attention to and resolve issues faced by neighbors living in difficult environments.”
