Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that in response to the forecast of Typhoon Khanun moving northward, the ongoing jamboree activities in the district were conducted as indoor programs, safely concluding the second day’s schedule.

On this day, the district organized the scouts into five groups and conducted various programs such as experiencing a large tornado, visiting the planetarium, and watching 3D screenings at Nowon Astronomical Science Museum and the Municipal Science Museum.

Scout leader Pavel, who participated in a brief interview at the Nowon Astronomical Science Museum, said, “Through various games and activities, I have developed more interest in space,” adding, “The materials were very educational, and especially the aurora video was so beautiful.”

After having a hearty meal at the district cafeteria, just like the previous day, the scouts moved to the Kwangwoon University Ice Rink and Dongcheon Skating Rink respectively to continue their active experiences in the afternoon programs.

Mayor Oh expressed his gratitude to Kwangwoon University (President Kim Jong-heon) and the executives and staff of Dongcheon Rehabilitation Sports Center for willingly providing space for the scouts who came from afar to Nowon despite the urgent request. The scouts also expressed their thanks with bright smiles and hand hearts while skating on the rink.

Amid the enthusiasm of the jamboree scouts, the closing event on the 10th featured performances by ▲Kim Deok-su’s Samulnori Troupe and ▲Hannuri Yeonhuidan. The troupe, known worldwide for spreading Korean traditional sounds, heated up the Nowon Cultural Arts Center with performances including Mun-gut & Gilnori, Samdo Nongak rhythms, fan dance, and Pangut.

The subsequent collaboration stage between Samulnori and B-boying also provided excitement to the scouts. The troupe invited the highly energized jamboree members onto the stage, and the scouts swayed their shoulders in rhythm, harmonizing with the performers. Roman Masarik, Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Korea, who watched the performance, also applauded and cheered.

Scout Matei, who came down from the stage, said, “It was a performance I saw for the first time in my life,” adding, “I heard it was a Korean traditional performance, but it was much cooler than I expected, and the stage where we could enjoy together was really exciting,” unable to hide his excitement.

On the final day, the 11th, the district and the Korea Military Academy will jointly conduct programs. Well-prepared activities include cheerleading, Taekwondo demonstrations, traditional archery and horseback riding experiences, as well as virtual and augmented reality experiences within the Military Academy. In the afternoon, the scouts will move to Sangam to watch the ‘K-pop Super Live Concert’ after leaving Nowon.

Meanwhile, Mayor Oh visited the site where the jamboree indoor experience programs were being held amid the hectic schedule due to typhoon preparations, carefully checking the safety status of the scouts and the operation of the programs.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “It’s been a hectic time managing the big issues of the typhoon and the jamboree simultaneously, but seeing the broad smiles of the scouts staying in Nowon gives me a sense of fulfillment,” adding, “I am glad that Nowon’s capabilities can contribute even a little to the international jamboree event.”
