Lee Sang-geun, the governor of Goseong County, Gyeongnam, visited vulnerable natural disaster sites immediately after Typhoon Khanun, the 6th typhoon, passed on the 10th to inspect the damage situation.


First, he visited Goseong Market and Goseong Dinosaur Market to check the arcade leakage inside the markets and inspected the drainage systems and underground parking lots.

He also visited the agricultural flood zones and the collapsed embankment site at Jangjwa Stream in Donghae-myeon to assess the damage, and visited the community centers where residents had evacuated in advance to check on the health of the elderly.


According to the county, the typhoon passed through Goseong County from the 9th to the morning of the 10th, recording an average rainfall of 231.6 mm and a maximum hourly rainfall of 58 mm/h. Thanks to emergency controls and residents’ preemptive evacuation at locations such as Songhak Underpass, Provincial Road 1010, and County Road 12, there were no casualties. Public and private facilities are currently undergoing damage assessments.


The Goseong County Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters issued an emergency duty order to 271 public officials from 6 p.m. on the 9th to strengthen pre-inspections of areas vulnerable to casualties.


Additionally, 67 people from 57 households in casualty-prone areas and 288 people from 172 households in landslide-prone areas were evacuated in advance to community centers and village halls, focusing all efforts on preventing casualties.


The governor urged, “Although there were no significant casualties in our county due to thorough prior preparations, please do your best to carry out emergency repairs at some of the damaged sites.”
