Yeongdeok-gun Sets Taxi Base Fare at 4000 Won ... 700 Won Increase

Adjustment of Taxi Fares and Rates in Gyeongbuk, Change in Fare Standards

Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, has decided to increase the basic taxi fare by 700 won for the first time in four years since March 2019, following the adjustment of taxi fares and rates by Gyeongbuk Province. They will also revise the standards for driving and time fares.

As a result, the fare for the basic distance of 2 km will increase from 3,300 won to 4,000 won, a 21.2% rise. Subsequently, the driving fare will be slightly adjusted from 100 won per 134 meters to 100 won per 131 meters. Additionally, the time fare, which was 100 won per 33 seconds when driving at speeds below 15 km/h, will be changed to 100 won per 31 seconds.

Furthermore, the late-night surcharge of 20%, previously applied from midnight to 4 a.m., will now be applied from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., starting one hour earlier than before, extending the surcharge period from 4 hours to 5 hours. However, surcharges outside the county boundary remain unchanged.

The revised fare system will take effect from the 4th of next month. Yeongdeok-gun plans to apply the new fares after completing taxi meter repairs in cooperation with transportation operators.

An official from the county stated, “This taxi fare increase reflects the need to update the fare system due to the worsening management of the taxi industry, economic downturn, and rising prices, while minimizing the burden on passengers.” They added, “We will make efforts to prevent confusion in taxi usage by thoroughly promoting the fare changes.”
