Uiryeong-gun Prepares for Typhoon 'Khanun' Approaching North... Emergency Countermeasure Meeting

On the 8th at 11 a.m., Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam, announced that it held an emergency countermeasure meeting at the Disaster Comprehensive Situation Room to inspect disaster preparedness in response to the northward approach of Typhoon No. 6 'Khanun.'

This meeting was arranged to check the response situation as the Uiryeong area is expected to come under the typhoon's influence starting from the 9th.

At the meeting, all department heads of Uiryeong-gun Office, eup and myeon chiefs, and related agencies attended to share the latest weather information and review sector-specific measures to minimize casualties and disaster damage.

The county plans to strengthen safety measures by preemptively identifying risk factors, as collapse accidents in areas vulnerable to landslides near residential areas, steep slopes, agricultural reservoirs, and construction sites are directly linked to casualties. Once the typhoon warning is issued, riverside parking lots and riverside walking trails will be proactively controlled.

Before entering the typhoon's influence zone, the county will enhance guidance on public action rules such as prohibiting and controlling access to dangerous areas for residents by utilizing emergency disaster messages, village broadcasts, and disaster warning and alert systems.

Depending on the weather situation, the county plans to operate the Disaster Safety Countermeasure Headquarters through phased emergency duty and maintain a 24-hour seamless response system.

Oh Tae-wan, head of the Disaster Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, said, "During the recent record-breaking heavy rain period, Uiryeong-gun did not experience a single casualty. The best preparation is preemptive control and evacuation," and urged, "Do not let your guard down and prepare two to three times more thoroughly to protect the lives and property of residents without any gaps."

The Uiryeong-gun disaster prevention system, operated independently by the county, allows real-time weather situation checks via PC or mobile access.
