Gwangjin-gu Expands Traffic Safety Guardians for School Commute Routes

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will expand the children's traffic guidance project on school commute routes starting in August.

As a result, a total of 189 traffic safety guidance personnel, an increase of 44 from the previous 145, have been assigned to 19 elementary schools in the area, including Gwangnam Elementary and Yonggok Elementary.

This reflects the opinions gathered at the parent and resident meeting on school zone safety held on June 21. Many expressed the need for additional traffic safety guidance personnel to prevent accidents within school zones.

Since January, the district has been operating traffic guidance projects aimed at zero traffic accidents involving children on school routes, including ▲ Dream Tree Traffic Safety Guardians ▲ School Zone Children's Traffic Guidance ▲ Model Drivers Association Traffic Control Campaign ▲ Traffic Safety Instructor Walking School Bus.

On April 13, in front of Yonggok Elementary School in Junggok-dong, Gwangjin-gu, traffic safety guardian Jeong OO quickly responded during morning traffic guidance and helped apprehend an unlicensed driver.

The expansion of traffic safety guidance personnel is expected to strengthen the children's traffic safety network even further.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho stated, “We will listen carefully to the voices of residents and create a safe and happy change in Gwangjin,” adding, “We will devote all efforts to establishing a ‘Gwangjin-style School Zone’ so that parents can send their children to school with peace of mind.”
