African Swine Fever (ASF) has been spreading nationwide since January this year, starting from Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province. Following an outbreak on the 18th in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, Jeongeup City is making every effort to prevent and control ASF.
The city announced on the 8th that it is thoroughly disinfecting pig farms by actively deploying disinfection resources, including two large-scale disinfectant sprayers and seven disinfection vehicles from the joint disinfection team.
Additionally, efforts are being made to manage farm biosecurity by promoting farm disinfection guidelines to prevent livestock infectious diseases.

Since there is no vaccine for African Swine Fever and the mortality rate is close to 100% upon infection, the main strategy is to preemptively block conditions that could lead to its spread.
The key measures include banning the illegal carrying and import of foreign livestock products, prohibiting visits to ASF-affected countries, banning the feeding of food waste, and installing fences to prevent contact with wild boars.
Mayor Lee Hak-su stated, “Please avoid contact with wild animals such as stray cats, feral dogs, and foxes, and refrain from hiking or visiting livestock farms in ASF-affected areas such as Gangwon-do, Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheong-do, and Gyeongbuk-do. We urge livestock farmers to disinfect their farms daily and work hard to block external wild animals.”
