Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 8th that it will hold the second round of applications for wish lanterns to brighten the 18th Hamyang Wild Ginseng Festival, which will be held at Sangnim Park for six days from September 7 to 12 under the theme "Healing in Hamyang, Health with Wild Ginseng."
The second round of wish lantern applications will be accepted from the 7th to the 11th. Residents, tourists, and hometown visitors who wish to hang wish lanterns can write their wishes on a note and apply to the Wild Ginseng Festival Committee, town offices, or the county office (relevant departments of institutions and organizations) along with the designated wish lantern fee.
There is no fixed price for purchasing wish lanterns, but individuals are suggested to pay around 10,000 KRW, and institutions (organizations) around 100,000 KRW, which should be deposited into the Hamyang Wild Ginseng Festival Committee’s account.
Participants who hang wish lanterns can receive 20% of their purchase amount back in Hamyang Love Gift Certificates as a return gift. The return gifts must be collected in person at the Wild Ginseng Festival Committee, town offices, or the county office (relevant departments of institutions and organizations) where the application was made, with distribution planned to start from the 28th.
As of the 4th, about 300 residents and 56 institutions (organizations) have participated, generating approximately 10 million KRW in sales revenue, achieving about 25% of the target amount of 40 million KRW.
The county attributes the somewhat low participation rate to reduced outdoor activities due to summer vacations, the rainy season, and heatwaves, and plans to achieve 100% of the target amount through active promotion and guidance during the remaining period.
A portion of the income from wish lantern sales will be used as a carbon-neutral fund aimed at promoting a low-carbon, eco-friendly festival.
This year, the county plans the Wild Ginseng Festival to be ▲ a low-carbon eco-friendly festival ▲ a festival with the "3 No’s" (3大無) ▲ a festival that returns saved costs to residents ▲ a festival involving all generations from children to seniors ▲ a festival that raises funds for the carbon-neutral fund through wish lantern sales ▲ and a festival that gives momentum to Hamyang-gun’s advancement as Korea’s wild ginseng distribution hub.
A county official said, “Residents who missed the opportunity to purchase wish lanterns due to busy schedules are encouraged to participate during this second round.”
