City Hall Women's Basketball Team Achieves '3 Consecutive National Championship Wins'
The women’s basketball team of Sacheon City Hall in Gyeongnam won the championship in the women’s general division at the 78th National Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships held at Yeonggwang Sportium from July 25 to August 4.
Overcoming the disappointment of finishing third in the previous tournament, the team has risen to become the nation’s top corporate team for three consecutive times since last year’s 103rd National Sports Festival, spreading the citizens’ hopes for the establishment of the Aerospace Administration nationwide.
In this tournament, which featured fierce competition among five teams including Sacheon City Hall, Daegu City Hall, Seodaemun District Office, Gimcheon City Hall, and Jeonnam Basketball Association, the Sacheon City Hall women’s basketball team started strong by defeating Daegu City Hall 72 to 55 in their first match. They then comfortably beat Jeonnam Basketball Association 93 to 49 and Seodaemun District Office 76 to 51. On the final day, they also defeated their long-time rival Gimcheon City Hall 76 to 45, proving themselves as the undisputed strongest corporate basketball team in the nation with a 31-point margin.

This tournament saw many upsets, including the newly formed Seodaemun District Office team surprising everyone by defeating Daegu City Hall, and Daegu City Hall dramatically beating Gimcheon City Hall by just one point, creating thrilling moments and raising tension. Despite these surprises, the Sacheon City Hall team achieved the remarkable feat of winning their third consecutive national championship following last year’s 103rd National Sports Festival.
Going forward, the Sacheon City Hall women’s basketball team is scheduled to participate in the women’s general division at the 104th National Sports Festival to be held in Mokpo, Jeonnam, this October, aiming to win the gold medal for the third consecutive time for the first time in history and is dedicating themselves to training.
Park Dong-sik, mayor of Sacheon, said, “Through this tournament victory, Sacheon City has once again proven to be the strongest in women’s basketball, and I thank the team for spreading the citizens’ hopes for the prompt establishment of the Aerospace Administration in Sacheon nationwide.”
Meanwhile, player Lee Eun-hye received the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award, and coach Shin Won-hwa was honored with the Best Coach award.
