On the morning of the 4th, the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency and the Gwangju Autonomous Police Committee cracked down on hangover drunk driving during the morning commute, catching 18 cases.
The Gwangju police are intensively cracking down until the end of this month during the summer vacation season, when concerns about drunk driving during the morning commute after drinking until late at night are increasing.
On this day, the crackdown recorded a total of 18 cases, including 5 cases of license cancellation level (blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher) and 13 cases of suspension level (blood alcohol concentration between 0.03% and less than 0.08%).
Since the crackdown began on the 13th of last month, a total of 295 cases have been caught so far.
During two crackdowns conducted during the daytime, there were 5 cases caught, including 4 cases of license cancellation and 1 case of suspension.
An official from the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency urged awareness improvement, saying, "More important than the crackdown is for individuals to recognize that drunk driving is a serious crime that can completely take away not only their own life but also the lives and property of others."
