Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold an experiential environmental education event, ‘Seocho Family Eco Camp,’ on the 5th at Wonteogol in Cheonggyesan (San 4-38, Wonji-dong), an ecological and landscape conservation area, to coincide with the summer vacation.

‘Seocho Family Eco Camp’ is an event designed to help families understand local ecological resources through nature-friendly ecological experiences and to promote a culture of environmental conservation.

As a result of accepting applications for 8 days starting from the 21st of last month, a total of 108 participants, including 41 elementary and middle school students and their accompanying families, are expected to attend the event.

The event will feature programs such as ▲monitoring of animals and plants and ecological education with forest interpreters ▲decorating and hanging birdhouses ▲hanging hopeful messages ▲and the Ecological Golden Bell quiz.

First, participating families will be divided into the Clover Team, Acorn Team, and Oak Team to conduct ecological education with certified forest interpreters. Afterwards, they will use observation tools such as binoculars and magnifying glasses to observe wild animals and plants within Cheonggyesan.

The ‘Decorating and Hanging Birdhouses’ activity involves decorating artificial birdhouses with holes and hanging them on various trees in the Cheonggyesan forest. The birdhouses will serve as resting and breeding places for birds living in Cheonggyesan, such as the Great Tit and Varied Tit. Youth participants will observe whether the birds settle well in the installed birdhouses, helping them recognize the importance of ecology and the environment.

There will also be a ‘Hanging Hopeful Messages’ event where participants write messages of hope for restoring nature on wooden boards and hang them on trees.

Additionally, the ‘Ecological Golden Bell’ quiz is expected to be a fun opportunity for students to learn about precious natural friends by solving environmental quizzes.

Since April, the district has been conducting the ‘Visiting Climate School’ program, performing the environmental play ‘Energy Triplets’ for 15 local daycare centers and kindergartens. Also, the ‘Seocho Carbon Zero Keepers,’ composed of 238 elementary, middle, and high school students in the area, received their appointment certificates in April and are actively working as green leaders to spread a culture of eco-friendly green living.

Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “I hope this experiential environmental education for the whole family will be a valuable time to feel the importance of the local natural environment and pledge to practice environmental protection,” adding, “We will continue to strive to create ‘a sustainable carbon-neutral clean city Seocho.’”
