Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Ilhyung Lee's 8th On-site Mayor's Office Visit to Jangandong

"Knock knock knock... Are you there, Elderly? The visiting nurse is here!"

"Ah~ Our nurse has come! The weather is hot, so come in quickly and enjoy the cool breeze in front of the fan! We have many precious guests visiting after a long time, but I don’t have much to offer..."

On the afternoon of the 3rd, Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) visited the home of a single elderly person in Jang-an 1-dong, a health-vulnerable group, as the eighth site of the ‘On-site District Office「Resident Communication On-site Talk Talk」’ program.

On this day, Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, along with visiting nurse Park Kyung-jae, checked the elderly person’s blood pressure, weight, and proper medication adherence to confirm health status and provided guidance on how to use the AI care robot. They also carefully listened to the elderly person’s concerns about daily inconveniences and thoroughly examined the possibility of improving the living environment and linking leisure, health, and welfare services.

In Dongdaemun-gu, 24 visiting nurses are assigned 1 to 2 per 14 neighborhoods, directly visiting households of basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, and single elderly people aged 65 or older to assess basic health status and health risk factors. They provide health care services to health-vulnerable residents, including chronic disease management, complication prevention, health behavior improvement education, elderly frailty programs, and linkage to health care services. Especially during the current scorching heatwave, in addition to health management services, they deliver heatwave health kits (nutritional supplements, handheld fans, cool menthol balm, etc.) and provide guidance on coping with the heat, fulfilling their role as ‘health guardians’.

The district operates various home health care projects, including AI·IoT-based elderly health management and rehabilitation projects for the disabled, in addition to visiting nursing services that provide meticulous health care to health-vulnerable residents in response to aging. Since April, the district has also started operating the ‘Neighborhood Knock Knock (do dream) Activity Team’ to overcome the limitations of the welfare blind spot detection system, actively discovering at-risk households by going out directly to ensure no neighbors are left isolated.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “I am most concerned about the health of the elderly due to the heatwave, but I feel reassured because there are visiting nurses who carefully perform health care duties by visiting the homes of health-vulnerable individuals even in the scorching weather.” He added, “I hope you will continue to provide consistent home health care services to health-vulnerable residents and do your best to create a healthy Dongdaemun-gu where no neighbors are left behind.”

Meanwhile, the on-site district office ‘Resident Communication On-site Talk Talk’, which started in April this year, is a program where the district mayor visits the site directly every Thursday to listen to residents’ inconveniences and difficulties and seek solutions together.
