Sancheong-gun Launches Program to Train Jirisan Premium Dried Persimmon Experts

Production Technology Training Until September 20

Advanced Farm Field Learning and More Conducted

Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam is accelerating efforts to cultivate experts in ‘Jirisan Sancheong Premium Dried Persimmons’.


Sancheong-gun announced on the 4th that it held the opening ceremony of the ‘2023 Jirisan Sancheong Dried Persimmon Production Technology Training’ on the afternoon of the 2nd at Deoksan Culture House in Sicheon-myeon.


The opening ceremony was attended by Lee Seunghwa, the county governor, Jung Myungsun, chairman of the Sancheong County Council, Park Sujeong, president of the Jirisan Sancheong Dried Persimmon Producers Association, county council members, trainees, and about 80 others.

This training, prepared to cultivate experts in premium dried persimmon production in Sancheong, provides specialized dried persimmon production technology education until September 20 for hopeful dried persimmon producers and hopeful returnees to farming and rural areas.


The training is operated by a professional education institution on consignment, with 10 expert instructors from the fields of fruit cultivation and marketing, including Jo Dohyun, former president of the Korea Persimmon Research Institute, Song Janghun, researcher at the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science in Naju, and Kim Jongguk, professor at Kyungpook National University.


The main topics include astringent persimmon cultivation techniques and pest management, premium dried persimmon (dried persimmon slices) manufacturing and processing technology, marketing techniques using SNS, and field trips to advanced dried persimmon production sites.


Especially in this year’s training, through on-site learning at advanced dried persimmon farms, know-how on persimmon tree cultivation and management methods will be transferred, and opportunities to benchmark dried persimmon production technologies aligned with recent trends will be provided to further strengthen the capabilities of dried persimmon producers.


Governor Lee said, “To maintain the reputation of Jirisan Sancheong dried persimmons, we will continue to strengthen the capabilities of dried persimmon producers,” adding, “We will spare no support to increase the income of dried persimmon producers by pioneering new sales channels through online marketing.”


Meanwhile, Sancheong dried persimmons are recognized as premium dried persimmons of the highest quality nationwide, having been the first in the country to register for the Geographical Indication (GI) system in the dried persimmon sector, and having been selected as the best in the Korea Representative Brand and Korea Representative Fruit Competition.
