COVID-19 Increase 'Still Ongoing'... 3,471 Daily Cases Confirmed on Average in Gyeongnam

The COVID-19 virus, which seemed to be subsiding somewhat, is surging again.


The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Gyeongnam region has been increasing for six consecutive weeks, with the daily average number of confirmed cases exceeding 3,000.

According to Gyeongnam Province on the 2nd, the total number of confirmed cases in the Gyeongnam region for the 30th week of 2023, from July 23 to 29, was 24,300, an increase of 4,194 cases compared to 20,106 cases in the 29th week.


The infection reproduction number slightly decreased from 1.23 the previous week to 1.17, but the daily average number of confirmed cases increased from 2,872.3 to 3,471.4.

By region, the numbers are as follows: ▲Changwon 8,510 ▲Gimhae 4,436 ▲Yangsan 2,565 ▲Jinju 2,212 ▲Geoje 1,545 ▲Tongyeong 819 ▲Sacheon 814 ▲Miryang 667.


By age group, ▲those aged 70 and above accounted for the highest number with 4,010 cases, followed by ▲60s with 3,933 ▲40s with 3,928 ▲50s with 3,833 ▲30s with 3,039 ▲20s with 2,335 ▲teens with 2,271 ▲under 10 with 951 cases.


Among them, confirmed cases aged 70 and above increased the most compared to the previous week, while cases among teenagers were the only ones to decrease.


As of midnight on July 30, the number of confirmed cases in the province for July was 71,990, with a total cumulative number of confirmed cases reaching 1,991,694 and deaths totaling 2,026.


As of midnight on the 2nd, there are 42 hospital beds available for treating severe COVID-19 patients in medical institutions, of which 28 beds are currently in use.
