[One Day Ten Thousand Steps] A Night in Seoul After the Heatwave... How About Walking and Reading?

[One Day Ten Thousand Steps] A Night in Seoul After the Heatwave... How About Walking and Reading?

Course 2 of the Seoul Dulle-gil Trail passes through Mukdongcheon, Mangusan, Yongmasan, and Achasan. It is a trail along the mountain ridge and offers the best views among the Seoul Dulle-gil courses. Yongmasan and Achasan are well-maintained, allowing for comfortable trekking. For the MZ generation, the most popular route is from Yongmasan Station - Yongma Waterfall Park - Yongmabong - Achasan. Since Yongmasan (348m) and Achasan (295.7m) are relatively low and easy in difficulty, the trail is favored not only by hikers but also by local residents as a walking path. At Yongma Waterfall Park, the Jungnang Sports Climbing Center and the 51-meter-high Yongma Waterfall catch the eye.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government operates a summer-themed exploration called ‘Moonlight Trekking’ on the Seoul Dulle-gil Trail. This night trekking takes place around the Achasan area, where you can enjoy the cool river breeze and immerse yourself in the night view of Seoul. Most sections of the ‘Moonlight Trekking’ route consist of wide and comfortable hiking trails, but some rocky areas require hiking boots and light sources suitable for nighttime trekking. There is a nearby subway station within walking distance, making access convenient. The ‘Moonlight Trekking’ event is held twice, with 50 participants selected per session (100 total) through a random electronic lottery from applications submitted between August 1 and 10. The trekking takes place on the evenings of August 18 and 25, from 7:20 PM to 10 PM.

You can also enjoy a unique nighttime reading experience. At Seoul Plaza’s ‘Reading Seoul Plaza,’ a special night program for July and August called is being held. Originally planned to close during the peak summer heat, the program will continue without closure as a nighttime event, aiming to provide citizens with an unforgettable summer night reading experience. It opened on July 9 and operates every Friday to Sunday from 4 PM to 9 PM.

For the event, tents with lights, camping chairs, an ‘LED Light Bookshelf,’ and ‘Balloon Lights’ reminiscent of moonlit nights are set up on the grass above Seoul Plaza, creating an exotic atmosphere for ‘night book camping.’ Citizens can lie on tents and bean bags in the night library set in the heart of the city and read books to beat the midsummer tropical nights. Free one-touch mosquito nets are available for rent. The detailed programs of the ‘Night Travel Library’ are designed around the theme of ‘travel,’ featuring representative cultural and artistic programs and literature that evoke different countries. Visitors to the ‘Night Travel Library’ can travel through books and culture to eight different countries over eight weeks. In July, the countries featured are Spain, the UK, Brazil, and Korea, followed by Ireland, Egypt, the UAE, and France in August.
