On the 28th, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul announced that they had obtained a seizure warrant from the court for the Mercedes-Benz vehicle of Mr. A (42, male), who caused a drunk driving accident. Yoon Jae-nam, the chief judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, explained the reason for issuing the warrant, stating, "It is necessary for the criminal investigation, and there are circumstances that reasonably suspect the suspect of committing a crime."
According to the police, Mr. A is accused of driving under the influence (violating the Road Traffic Act) on the night of the 13th at 9:41 PM near an on-street parking lot on Banpo-daero in Seocho-gu, where he, while heavily intoxicated, consecutively collided with a parked Santa Fe vehicle and a stationary Mighty vehicle. The police responded to a report stating, "The other party in the traffic accident is suspected of drinking," and apprehended Mr. A at the scene.
At the time of the accident, Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was confirmed to be 0.291%, far exceeding the license cancellation level (0.08% or higher). It was reported that Mr. A stated during the police investigation that he "drove after drinking more than one bottle of soju."
Mr. A has a history of DUI incidents, including causing a drunk driving accident in April 2010, being caught for drunk driving in 2012 and 2016, and refusing a breathalyzer test in August of last year. The police are considering applying for an arrest warrant for Mr. A.
