POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jin-su) has launched a culture of sharing to practice the management philosophy of ‘Corporate Citizenship’ by conducting joint volunteer activities involving all local community stakeholders, including members of its talent volunteer group, city hall volunteer group, and partner organizations, as well as inspecting sites damaged by heavy rain.

On the 22nd, Gwangyang Steelworks carried out a joint volunteer activity in the Jangnae Village area of Taein-dong, Gwangyang City, with about 365 volunteer members from 33 talent volunteer groups, 15 volunteers from Gwangyang City Hall, and about 20 volunteers from partner organizations of the talent volunteer groups.

On that day, Gwangyang Mayor Jeong In-hwa, City Council Chairman Seo Young-bae, and Gwangyang Steelworks Director Lee Jin-su also participated in the joint volunteer activity.

Gwangyang Steelworks has been conducting joint volunteer activities three to four times a year, where members of each talent volunteer group utilize their skills to provide customized volunteer services to local residents.

Amid concerns over damage following recent heavy rains, this joint volunteer activity also included inspections of damaged sites and confirmation of residents’ safety, setting a precedent as a contribution activity responsible for citizens’ safety.

Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang and Director Lee Jin-su of Gwangyang Steelworks visited the booths of the Hanuibaram Balloon Art Talent Volunteer Group and the Maeumi-eum Flower Arrangement Talent Volunteer Group at the Taein-dong Community Center, where they personally created various balloon art and flower arrangement products with the volunteers and delivered them to local residents.

Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang said, "Thanks to the volunteers, Gwangyang City is becoming a better place to live," and added, "We will spare no support to ensure that the culture of sharing spreads widely throughout the local community."

Additionally, Director Lee Jin-su of Gwangyang Steelworks and Taein-dong Mayor Jo Hee-su toured various parts of Taein-dong to inspect flood damage sites and carefully addressed residents’ inconveniences through direct interviews.

Furthermore, facility reinforcements worth about 10 million KRW were made to prevent leaks, including the installation of rain shelters for households where leakage was confirmed due to heavy rain.

Meanwhile, under the management philosophy of Corporate Citizenship, Gwangyang Steelworks has been carrying out ESG activities throughout Gwangyang City as a company coexisting with the local community.

Every year, in cooperation with the Jeonnam Social Welfare Community Chest and the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation, it utilizes donations amounting to about 1 billion KRW to implement projects such as ▲ job creation for the elderly and disabled, ▲ support for vulnerable children, and ▲ settlement support for multicultural families.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the founding of the POSCO Volunteer Group this year, Gwangyang Steelworks plans to continue various sharing activities in the second half of the year that local residents can feel, strengthening its commitment to coexistence with the local community.
