Transaction Amount Over 1 Billion KRW...Report on 'Transactions During Working Hours' Emerges
The Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 24th that it will push for a referral to the National Assembly Ethics Special Committee regarding the virtual asset investments of Kwon Young-se, a member of the People Power Party who is concurrently serving as the Minister of Unification.
Kwon Chil-seung, the chief spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, stated at a briefing at the National Assembly on the 24th, “We have requested the People Power Party to refer Kwon Young-se to the National Assembly Ethics Special Committee.”
Earlier, the National Assembly Ethics Review Advisory Committee received reports on the virtual asset holdings of all members of the National Assembly and found that Kwon Young-se, Minister of Unification, and Kim Hong-gul, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, had conducted over 400 and 100 virtual asset transactions respectively over the past three years.

Spokesperson Kwon explained the reason for the referral to the Ethics Special Committee, saying, “(Regarding Minister Kwon Young-se’s virtual asset transactions) there are conflicts of interest related to legislation, and the cumulative transaction amount exceeds 1 billion KRW, which is a significant sum.” He added, “There were reports that (Minister Kwon Young-se) traded virtual assets during working hours, so we will consider all these factors comprehensively.”
Spokesperson Kwon also said that they will conduct a fact-finding investigation into Kim Hong-gul, a Democratic Party member who has attracted attention for having a cumulative virtual asset purchase amount exceeding 1 billion KRW, along with Minister Kwon Young-se.
Regarding the disciplinary proposal for Kim Nam-guk, a member of the National Assembly whom the Ethics Committee recommended for expulsion, he responded, “That matter will be judged by the Ethics Special Committee.”
