Lithium Plus announced on the 21st that it has obtained the ‘New Technology (NET) Applied Product Confirmation’ from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for lithium hydroxide monohydrate for lithium secondary batteries produced using a chemical refining technology that utilizes water for environmental improvement.
The lithium hydroxide for lithium secondary batteries from Lithium Plus, which received the New Technology Applied Product Confirmation from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has lower impurity and carbonate content compared to products from global lithium hydroxide manufacturers, receiving positive responses from the industry, the company explained. Lithium Plus had previously received New Technology (NET) certification from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in May.
The New Technology Applied Product Confirmation system is a national certification system for products produced using technologies that have received new technology certification. A panel of experts visits the production site to verify and review whether the new technology has been applied. It is also a system where the state certifies technologies that are either developed domestically for the first time or existing technologies that have been innovatively improved. This certification requires passing three rounds of systematic evaluations and meeting strict and diverse criteria, including contributing to the enhancement of national technological capabilities and competitiveness.
Companies that receive the New Technology (NET) Applied Product Confirmation are supported in purchases by the government and public institutions. For example, under the National Contract Act and Local Contract Act, new technology applied products can be purchased by the government through negotiated contracts, designated as excellent products by the Public Procurement Service, and prioritized for supply to demand institutions if selected as excellent procurement products. Additionally, they can receive support in government and local government R&D projects and product exports, and enjoy preferential treatment in funding support from financial institutions, among various other benefits.
The lithium hydroxide produced by Lithium Plus is a key raw material for lithium secondary batteries but is entirely dependent on imports, with 84% of it imported from China in particular.
The company stated, “In the current situation where the stable supply of lithium hydroxide for lithium secondary batteries is becoming uncertain due to China’s export control policies on key minerals, the New Technology (NET) Applied Product Confirmation for lithium hydroxide for lithium secondary batteries produced by Lithium Plus is even more significant.”
