Park Byung-gyu, the mayor of Gwangsan District in Gwangju Metropolitan City, expressed his welcome regarding the selection of Gwangju’s ‘Future Car Materials, Parts, and Equipment Specialized Complex.’
According to Gwangsan District on the 20th, Mayor Park stated in a press release, “On behalf of the 420,000 citizens of Gwangsan, I warmly welcome this.”
Mayor Park said, “Today will be recorded as a historic day when Gwangju and Gwangsan take flight as the center of the global future car industry with two wings: the national future car industrial complex and the materials, parts, and equipment specialized complex,” and added, “I deeply appreciate the efforts of local political figures, including Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jung, who worked hard to secure new growth engines for Gwangju.”
He continued, “Gwangju now begins a new step as a leading future car city from being the only domestic city with two complete car factories and an annual production capacity of 720,000 vehicles, and the central stage for this is Gwangsan,” emphasizing the point.
Furthermore, he said, “We expect enormous socio-economic effects such as accelerating the transition of about 570 parts companies centered on internal combustion engines to future cars, increasing the localization rate of core autonomous driving parts, a production inducement effect of 3 trillion won, and an employment inducement effect of 16,000 people,” and predicted, “The synergy between the national future car industrial complex and the materials, parts, and equipment specialized complex will lead to a groundbreaking change that will transform not only Gwangsan but also Gwangju.”
He also explained, “Gwangsan now embraces the ‘complete set’ of future cars with Bitgreen Industrial Complex, home to Gwangju Global Motors born from the Gwangju-type job model, Jingok Industrial Complex where parts companies are concentrated, the national future car industrial complex responsible for Gwangju’s future, and the materials, parts, and equipment specialized complex,” adding, “This will be a golden opportunity for job innovation, which is a key focus of the 8th term of the Gwangsan administration.”
He then stated, “Gwangsan is Gwangju, and Gwangju is Korea,” and said, “Innovation in Gwangsan through social dialogue will change Gwangju and, furthermore, will be a signal to transform Korea,” concluding, “We will actively cooperate with the central government, Gwangju City, and others to ensure that ‘Future Mobility Cluster’ Gwangsan, Gwangju becomes a cradle of good jobs and do our best.”
