The Democratic Party says the audit results on the dismantling of the Four Major Rivers dams show "Moon's state manipulation goes beyond to state corruption"

"All Involved Must Be Held Accountable"

On the 20th, the People Power Party criticized the previous administration, calling it "beyond state manipulation to state misappropriation," in response to the Board of Audit and Inspection's announcement of the audit results on the dismantling process of the Four Major Rivers dams under the Moon Jae-in administration.

Kang Min-guk, the chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, stated, "Following the manipulation of the nuclear phase-out report, delays in the THAAD environmental assessment, and manipulation of job statistics, it has been revealed that various fabrications and schemes were rampant in the decision-making process to dismantle the Four Major Rivers dams. I want to ask if this is what former President Moon Jae-in meant by a 'country never before experienced' that he often talked about."

The Board of Audit and Inspection concluded that during the Moon administration, civic groups opposing the Four Major Rivers project were involved in the decision to dismantle the dams on the Geumgang and Yeongsangang Rivers, and that former Minister of Environment Kim Eun-kyung had directed this. Accordingly, in January, the Board referred former Minister Kim and two officials from the Investigation and Evaluation Team to the prosecution on charges including abuse of authority.

Chief Spokesperson Kang expressed, "From the beginning, the Moon administration was so ideologically obsessed that it conducted a 'pre-determined investigation' on the 'dismantling of the Four Major Rivers dams' without any consideration for the benefits or advantages to the people." He pointed out, "The Moon administration's Blue House practically pressured for a hasty decision by demanding a conclusion within two months. Despite criticisms that the economic evaluation method lacked reliability and validity, they rushed to decide on dismantling the dams without properly reviewing alternatives."

He continued, "In what country can policy decisions for the people be so biased and rushed? As President Yoon Seok-yeol said, the damage caused by misguided policies executed with ideological bias without considering the nation's future falls entirely on the people."

Chief Spokesperson Kang also explained that the recent severe flooding damage is related to the dismantling of the Four Major Rivers dams. He emphasized, "The recent flood damage was concentrated in tributaries and streams where the project was not properly carried out, whereas the main rivers where the Four Major Rivers project was implemented suffered almost no damage."

Kang stated, "Although the Board of Audit and Inspection has referred former Minister Kim to the prosecution on charges of abuse of authority, this should not end with just punishing former Minister Kim. Responsibility must be held accountable for all those involved in the wrongful policy decisions that caused harm to the people."
