Gyeonggi Province is taking emergency support measures for five victims of jeonse fraud. This is the first time that Gyeonggi Province has stepped in to support victims of jeonse fraud.
On the 20th, Gyeonggi Province announced that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Jeonse Fraud Victim Support Committee recently held a full meeting and finally designated five victims in the Suwon area as 'jeonse fraud victims.'
Earlier, based on the results of local government investigations, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has been determining jeonse fraud victims in accordance with the 'Special Act on Support for Jeonse Fraud Victims and Housing Stability (Jeonse Fraud Special Act),' which came into effect on June 1. Once designated as a victim, individuals can receive support such as assistance with auction procedures, credit recovery support, financial aid, and emergency welfare support.
Gyeonggi Province is currently entrusted with receiving applications and investigating damage facts for the determination of jeonse fraud victims through the provincial Jeonse Damage Support Center. Since the enactment of the Special Act, a total of 714 people have applied for support as of the 14th of this month. Including the five newly designated victims, Gyeonggi Province has submitted investigation results for 500 people to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
If you want to be designated as a jeonse fraud victim under the Special Act and receive support, victims can visit the provincial Jeonse Damage Support Center to submit an application. Afterwards, the center investigates the damage facts by requesting data from related agencies and submits the relevant information to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The Ministry’s committee then reviews the case, determines the jeonse fraud victims, and notifies the results.
Starting from the 24th of this month, to facilitate applications from jeonse fraud victims, application submissions will be possible not only at the provincial Jeonse Damage Support Center located in Suwon but also through city and county offices.
The provincial Jeonse Damage Support Center will prepare one-on-one customized counseling sessions in September, using victims’ cases to help them easily understand and access professional support under the Special Act, including auction procedures and rights relationships in the certified copy of the register.
Jung Jong-guk, Director of the Housing Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Since many people suffer from jeonse fraud, we will seek various practical measures and do our best to protect residents’ property rights and housing stability."
The financial and legal counseling services and call center of the provincial Jeonse Damage Support Center operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (excluding lunch break from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.).
