"Thinner, Lighter, and More Durable Foldable"
Three Core Directions: Essence Pursuit, Innovation, and Harmony
Unpacked on the 26th at COEX... Global Experience Space Opens
Samsung Electronics has announced that it will bring a fresh breeze to foldable phones through design innovation ahead of the ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event scheduled for the 26th.
On the 19th, Tae-moon Roh, President of Samsung Electronics’ MX Division, stated in an article titled “Our Future Created Through Customer-Centered Design and Innovation” posted on the Samsung Newsroom, "We have innovated to create foldables that are thinner, lighter, and more durable than ever by enhancing portability, and you will be able to feel this change."
Since December last year, President Roh has also been serving as the head of the Design Management Center. He said, "As an engineer, I knew well that ultimate design and technological innovation for customers are inseparable, but taking on this new role made me realize anew that only when design and research & development (R&D) create synergy can truly innovative user experiences be achieved."
Regarding the design direction of the new foldable, he explained, "Reflecting a new era that values experience over performance and meaningful connections over technology, we derived three design directions for our design: ‘pursuing essence,’ ‘innovative,’ and ‘harmonious.’"
He continued, "By reflecting this new design direction, the Galaxy foldables have implemented a refined design that is more faithful to their core functions and usability," adding, "We raised the standard of innovation with ergonomic design. A difference of millimeters in thickness may seem trivial, but these subtle changes embody advanced engineering technology and craftsmanship." It is known that the Fold5 is about 0.2mm thinner than its predecessor. Additionally, the Fold and Flip5 apply a waterdrop hinge technology that fully adheres the display, making the folded device feel thinner than the previous model.
President Roh said, "We will propose not only exterior design but also a customized foldable user experience that users need most." He explained, "By providing the most flexible camera experience, users can express themselves more freely. Without pressing the camera button directly, users can freely take various selfies from desired angles." He added, "With multitasking on the large screen, we have raised the standard of efficiency. Users will be able to smoothly enjoy work, collaboration, and gaming as if flowing like water."
Samsung Electronics will hold the Galaxy Unpacked event at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, on the 26th. At this event, the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip5, along with the Galaxy Watch6 series and Galaxy Tab9, will be unveiled. Approximately 500 foreign journalists from about 40 countries are expected to attend this event, which is being held in Korea for the first time.
President Roh said, "At this Unpacked event, we will introduce products and experiences inspired directly by you and made for you," adding, "When these products create something new in your daily life, enhance efficiency, and become tools for self-expression, they will serve as a stepping stone for Samsung’s next innovation."
Immediately after the Unpacked event, Samsung Electronics will open experience spaces showcasing new products and innovative technologies in major global cities. Sequentially, ‘Galaxy Experience Spaces’ will open in seven locations across six countries, including Seoul, Busan, New York in the U.S., Paris in France, Berlin in Germany, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, and Bangkok in Thailand.
The Galaxy Experience Space will be designed with a shopping mall concept. It will introduce how the latest Galaxy devices can change everyday life through device experiences, connectivity within the Galaxy ecosystem, and Samsung Pay experiences. Visitors can try out the latest features and design their own smartphones using accessories.
