The newly established solar power generation facility was installed on the rooftops of the aseptic finished product and solid dosage buildings at the Baekam plant, covering areas of 1,417㎡ (approximately 429 pyeong) and 459㎡ (approximately 139 pyeong), respectively, with a total capacity of 395.3 kW. The expected annual power generation is 505 MWh, which is enough to supply about 175 households for one year. In addition, a new energy monitoring system was installed, and efficiency improvements were made to existing facilities through the replacement of the boiler system and air compressor. Through these new facilities and improvements, Jeil Pharmaceutical expects the Baekam plant’s energy consumption to be reduced by about 10% compared to the previous year, and greenhouse gas emissions to be cut by nearly 5%.

Jeil Pharmaceutical plans to carry out various eco-friendly activities under the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieving 100% carbon neutrality by 2050 through such eco-friendly system improvements. To this end, Jeil Pharmaceutical signed a business agreement with the global environmental specialist company Veolia last October to build a smart factory for energy efficiency and green electricity production at its Yongin production plant and has been carrying out the project.

Shim Sang-young, Head of Production at Jeil Pharmaceutical, said, “We will realize carbon neutrality to respond to the climate crisis through energy savings and accelerate environmental management in line with the government’s basic plan for green growth.” He added, “We will fulfill our social responsibility and further strengthen our ESG (environment, social, governance) management capabilities for sustainable growth.” Lee Sang-joo, Executive Director of Veolia’s Energy Business Division, also stated, “In the short term, we will achieve energy savings and greenhouse gas reduction targets. In the mid- to long-term, we plan to actively cooperate to enable continuous environmental improvements across water, energy, waste, and air, as well as management through strategic key performance indicators (KPIs).”
