Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced the completion of the sidewalk expansion project for three sections, including Haedeung-ro 41 to Deokneung-ro 315, which had narrow and uneven sidewalks causing inconvenience to pedestrians.

The sidewalk expansion project is a pedestrian environment improvement initiative that transforms car-centered spaces into people-centered spaces by reducing lane widths and expanding sidewalks for pedestrians.

The project sections are located in densely populated residential areas: ▲Haedeung-ro 41 to Deokneung-ro 315 (Chang 1-dong), ▲Uicheon-ro 332 to 308 (Ssangmun 3-dong), which serves as a commuting route to Duksung Women’s University and Hyomun Middle and High Schools, and ▲Uicheon-ro 465 to 380 (Ssangmun 1-dong). These areas had received continuous complaints regarding sidewalk maintenance from vulnerable pedestrians such as stroller and wheelchair users.

Accordingly, the district, after undergoing traffic safety regulation review by the National Police Agency, expanded the sidewalk width from 1.5?2.0 meters to 2.5?3.0 meters and repaired uneven sidewalks caused by tree root uplift to ensure pedestrian safety and convenience.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “I am pleased that this sidewalk expansion project has created an environment where residents can walk safely and conveniently,” adding, “We will continue to actively reflect residents’ opinions and do our best to create ‘streets people want to walk on’ and ‘safe streets.’”
