Gwangjin-gu, 8.9 Billion KRW Allocated in 2nd Supplementary Budget... Focus on Economic Vitality

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has prepared a 2nd supplementary budget proposal amounting to 8.9 billion KRW and submitted it to the Gwangjin-gu Council.

In response to the ongoing economic downturn and difficult conditions, the district formulated the supplementary budget using 7.57 billion KRW from the net surplus and 1.37 billion KRW from national and city subsidies.

This supplementary budget proposal particularly emphasizes revitalizing the local economy. It also reflects efforts to expand win-win welfare across life cycles, strengthen resident safety, and increase projects for urban development.

Key projects by sector include allocations for local economic revitalization such as 1.66 billion KRW for issuing mobile Gwangjin Love gift certificates, 440 million KRW for improving traditional market facilities, 100 million KRW to support traditional market revitalization festivals, and 435 million KRW for operating public work projects.

Additionally, 230 million KRW was newly allocated to financially support village bus transportation businesses to alleviate management difficulties and minimize residents’ inconvenience caused by reduced operations.

In the win-win welfare sector by life cycle, 350 million KRW was allocated for infant and toddler-related support including air conditioner cleaning costs for daycare centers, operating expenses for daycare centers serving foreign-nationality children, childcare costs for relatives acting as caregivers, and cooling expenses for local care centers and regional children’s centers.

For youth, 62 million KRW was allocated for free health checkups for single-person households in Gwangjin-gu and support for youth language proficiency test fees. For pregnant women, 1.14 billion KRW was allocated for postpartum care expenses and Seoul-type maternal and newborn health management support projects.

For seniors, 80 million KRW was allocated to support senior centers’ operations and senior association maintenance, as well as to implement policy research for creating an age-friendly city, thereby expanding welfare services tailored to life stages.

In the urban development and resident safety sector, 400 million KRW was allocated for the urban management plan and district unit plan establishment around Walkerhill Apartments, 100 million KRW for feasibility studies on new access facilities to Gangbyeonbuk-ro, 200 million KRW for improving visibility facilities in school zones, 300 million KRW for installing flood prevention facilities in underground housing, and 400 million KRW for maintenance of sidewalks within the district.

Furthermore, to relieve residents’ stress amid difficult economic conditions and invigorate daily life, 650 million KRW was allocated for 15 projects including the inaugural Gwangjin Family Film Festival, additional operation of walking contests for residents and lifestyle sports classes for youth and workers, and expanded opening hours of public libraries to support residents’ healthy leisure activities.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho stated, “Since the budget reflects only what residents truly need based on on-site inspections, we will promptly execute it once finalized. We will continue to communicate steadily to build a developing Gwangjin-gu.”

This supplementary budget proposal will be reviewed and approved at the 263rd Gwangjin-gu Council extraordinary session and finalized on July 19.
