PMI, Survey on Summer Vacation Plans of Office Workers
30.5% Departing in the First Week of Next Month Ranks 1st
2 Nights 3 Days Period is the Most Common at 38%
Domestic office workers showed a preference for taking their summer vacation during the first week of August this year. The majority chose a vacation period of 3 days, and many expected to spend up to 600,000 KRW on vacation expenses.

According to a survey conducted on the 14th by online research firm PMi using the survey platform 'UniSurvey,' targeting 3,000 men and women aged 20 to 69 nationwide, among office workers who planned their summer vacation this year, 38.1% of respondents expected to take a 2-night, 3-day trip. This was followed by 3 nights and 4 days at 22.2%, 1 night and 2 days at 16.6%, and 4 nights and 5 days at 11.1%.
Looking at the age distribution of respondents who planned a summer vacation, those in their 50s accounted for the highest proportion at 32.4%, followed by those in their 60s at 31.4%. Next were people in their 40s at 26.4%, 20s at 23.6%, and 30s at 19.3%.
The peak season for summer vacations this year is expected to be the first week of next month. The highest proportion, 30.5%, planned to take their summer vacation during the first week of August. This was followed by the fourth week of July at 17.4%, the second week of August at 14.6%, and the third week of August at 10.9%. The proportion planning their summer vacation after August to avoid the peak season was 5.4%.
Regarding expected summer vacation expenses, the largest group, 25%, chose between 400,000 and 600,000 KRW per person. Those expecting to spend over 1,000,000 KRW accounted for 21.9%. This was followed by 600,000 to 800,000 KRW at 16.7%, 200,000 to 400,000 KRW at 15.6%, and 800,000 to 1,000,000 KRW at 15.5%.
The top summer vacation destination planned by office workers was the sea (33.8%), followed by indoor resorts such as hotels, pensions, and pool villas (31.5%). Third was mountains or valleys (21.3%), and fourth was overseas travel (12.2%). A PMi official explained, "There is increasing demand for active activities such as surfing, hiking, diving, and cycling at popular vacation spots like the sea, mountains, and valleys. This summer vacation trend focuses not only on improving physical fitness and health but also on stress relief through communion with nature and seeking new experiences."
According to the survey, among those planning overseas travel for their summer vacation, Japan was the most chosen destination. Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand and Singapore also showed high preference. PMi stated, "Japan is a strong favorite travel destination due to its proximity, relatively short travel time, and the recent phenomenon of an unprecedentedly weak yen."
