Efforts to Secure National Budget and Resolve Local Issues
Woosunghee, the governor of Yeongam County, met with Seo Samsuk, the chairman of the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Special Committee and a local member of the National Assembly, at the National Assembly on the 11th to request securing national budget and resolving major local issues.
Governor Woo's visit to the National Assembly was aimed at maximizing the reflection of Yeongam County's core projects for the 8th term of direct election in next year's national budget. This visit took place amid the recent announcement by the central government of decreased tax revenue and strengthened fiscal austerity, and while the Ministry of Economy and Finance is actively reviewing next year's national budget proposals submitted by various central government departments.

On that day, Governor Woo requested Chairman Seo to support representative projects including △Smart Shipbuilding and Marine Industry Future Talent Development (total project cost 6 billion KRW) △Yeongam Gaesin Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance (total project cost 44 billion KRW) △National Road No. 13 Yeongam Intersection Improvement (total project cost 8 billion KRW) △Installation of Namsaengi Biological Resource Conservation Facility (total project cost 5 billion KRW) △Establishment of Agricultural Machinery Rental Yeongam County Eastern Branch Office (total project cost 2.7 billion KRW).
Policy proposal projects mentioned included ▲Undergrounding of High-Voltage Transmission Lines in Daebul Industrial Complex Residential Area (total project cost 48 billion KRW) ▲National government support for costs related to culling livestock due to infectious diseases.
Governor Woo explained the necessity of the ‘Smart Shipbuilding and Marine Industry Future Talent Development Project’ to address the increase in ship orders and the shortage of manpower, and emphasized nurturing talents who will lead the future of the shipbuilding industry by utilizing advanced technologies such as AI, Internet of Things, and Big Data.
He also requested that the ‘National Road No. 13 Yeongam Intersection Improvement Project’ widen the main roads leading to Yeongam-eup and Yeongam Agricultural and Industrial Complex to facilitate smooth traffic flow and prevent traffic accidents.
He added the necessity of the ‘Namsaengi Biological Resource Conservation Facility Installation Project’ for the ecological healing city, Yeongam.
Governor Woo also proposed securing national funds for projects such as the installation of a small fishing boat mooring facility in Samho, conversion of Samho Health Center into a health promotion center, excavation and maintenance of the Mahan Historical and Cultural Area, and reorganization of rural water use systems.
Governor Woosunghee stated, “The projects proposed and suggested this time are essential for the development of Yeongam County and the happiness of its residents,” and added, “In the second half of the year, when budget deliberations become full-scale, I will frequently visit the National Assembly to explain and gain consensus on Yeongam County’s issues and key projects, and do my best to secure the national budget.”
