‘Emotion for Children, Inspiration for Adults’ Motto ... Screening 163 Films from 54 Countries
Busan City will hold the "18th Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival," a film and video festival created by children and adolescents, for seven days from the 10th to the 16th at the Busan Cinema Center, Korean Film Council, Video Industry Center, and Jung-gu Yurari Square.
Under the motto "Emotion for Kids, Inspiration for Adults," the festival will screen a total of 163 films from 54 countries, of which 113 films will be premiered for the first time in Korea.
Starting with the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. on July 10 at the Sky Theater of the Busan Cinema Center, various events such as screenings, Q&A sessions with audiences, poster exhibitions, animation concerts, exhibitions and experiential events, and academic events will be held at various venues.
In particular, at this year’s opening ceremony, the Kids and Youth Executive Committee "Bikies" will read a declaration recognizing children not as objects of protection and care but as dignified subjects, reflecting on the meaning of children's rights.
The opening film is "Sparkling," directed by Domien Heyher, which was also selected as the opening film of the Generation section at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival.
The film depicts the inner growth of adolescents through experiences of loss and mourning and will be screened at 7 p.m. on July 10 at the Sky Theater of the Busan Cinema Center.
Kim Ki-hwan, Director of the Culture and Sports Bureau of Busan City, said, "This film festival will approach citizens as a place where not only children and adolescents but all Busan citizens can enjoy a film festival," adding, "I hope children and adolescents will nurture their dreams through the festival in Busan, a UNESCO Creative City of Film."
Detailed information about the festival, including screening titles and schedules, can be found on the Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival website, and tickets can be reserved on the Busan Cinema Center website or purchased on-site.
