Today's walking course starts at Mapo-gu Office Station on Line 6. Mapo-gu derives its name from the port name 'Mapo (麻浦)'. Mapo-gu Office Station is named as such because Mapo-gu Office is located near the station.
Between Mapo-gu Office Station and World Cup Stadium, there is World Cup Park, a large-scale regenerated green space created by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The World Cup Park area is divided into Peace Park, Sky Park, Nanji Hangang Park, Nanji Stream Park, and Sunset Park, boasting vast green spaces rarely found in Seoul. Nearby Hongjecheon and Bulgwangcheon streams are also considered seasonal attractions thanks to their well-maintained landscaping.
The course begins at Mapo Agricultural and Marine Products Market, located about 500 meters from Exit 8 of Mapo-gu Office Station. Opened in 1998, this wholesale agricultural and marine products market has supplied ingredients to the western region of Seoul. Although its operating permit expired in 2016 and the Seoul city government attempted to reclaim management rights, the market continued operations after opposition from vendors and local residents. Before fully entering the walking course, it is recommended to start by filling your stomach with fresh food from this market.
From now on, you will enter World Cup Park and encounter greenery. About 200 meters from Mapo Agricultural and Marine Products Market is Peace Park. As the first park on the course, Peace Park represents the entire World Cup Park. It features UNICEF Plaza, Nanji Pond, Peace Garden, picnic areas, and Nanji Island Story (World Cup Park Exhibition Hall).
Next, head to Nanji Hangang Park. Covering an area of 777,000㎡, Nanji Hangang Park is the second-largest Hangang Park in Seoul and is easily accessible via connecting bridges to Sunset Park and Sky Park within World Cup Park. It is especially popular in summer for urban cooling, with a mirror fountain and riverside water playground. There is also Nanji Camping Site inside the park for leisure activities.
Following that is Nanji Sky Park, a space that cultivated vitality on barren land. World Cup Park was originally built on a landfill site, and Nanji Sky Park was created on the most barren area, the Nanji Second Landfill. Native plants such as silver grass and thistle were planted to create the park.
The final spot is Metasequoia Road, connected to Sky Park. This path, lined on both sides with tall metasequoia trees, is considered one of the best walking paths in Seoul. Following Metasequoia Road toward Exit 2 of World Cup Stadium Station concludes the course. The path from Metasequoia Road to World Cup Stadium Station is also part of Seoul Dulle-gil Course 7.
