Prosecutors Seek Arrest Warrant for Former Coach Im Jong-heon Over 'Bribery in Professional Football Recruitment'

The prosecution investigating allegations of bribery in exchange for player recruitment at professional football clubs has moved to secure the custody of former coaches of professional and university football teams.

According to the legal community on the 6th, the Criminal Division 9 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Hyun-ah) filed an arrest warrant the previous day against Lim Jong-heon (57), former coach of Ansan Greeners in K League 2, the second division of professional football, on charges of breach of trust and fraud. An arrest warrant was also filed against agent Choi (36), who provided money to former coach Lim, on charges including mediation of breach of trust.


Former coach Lim is accused of receiving 40 million won from Choi in exchange for selecting two Korean players while working as the coach of Navy FC, a professional football club in Thailand, from 2018 to 2019. He is also accused of deceiving a player by promising professional recruitment and extorting 20 million won from him.


Choi is accused of giving a total of 67 million won to former coach Lim and others as a bribe for player recruitment and extorting 20 million won from one player by promising professional recruitment. The prosecution also uncovered that a former university football team coach, Shin, received 60 million won from 2017 to 2018 as a bribe for facilitating the recruitment of three players into professional clubs, and an arrest warrant was filed against him as well.
