At this Unpacked event, new products such as the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip5, Galaxy Tab S9, and Galaxy Watch6 are expected to be revealed. While the event has been held in major global cities such as New York and San Francisco in the U.S., London in the U.K., Berlin in Germany, and Barcelona in Spain, this year marks the first time it will be held in Korea. To commemorate the first Korean event, the invitation image, which had been in English, now features the word '언팩' in Hangul. The letters also incorporate images of Korea’s iconic buildings such as Namsan Tower and palaces.
While holding the media and industry event at COEX, Samsung has partnered with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to engage citizens as well. A 'Galaxy Unpacked 2023 Live Viewing' event will be held at the outdoor stage in Seoul Plaza, located in front of Seoul City Hall. The Unpacked event at COEX will be broadcast live to convey the excitement on site. The event will last about two hours and include ▲ live viewing of Galaxy Unpacked ▲ special performances ▲ new product experiences.
Live performances to beat the summer heat are prepared before and after the Unpacked event. Young science prodigies who will lead Korea’s future will also be invited. After watching Galaxy Unpacked, attendees can experience the new products. The new product experience zone set up at Seoul Plaza will be open until 10 PM on the day of the event and from the 27th to the 30th, it will operate daily from 11 AM to 9 PM. Additionally, in connection with the 'Reading Seoul Plaza' event held during the same period, a Galaxy Tab 'To-Go Lounge' will be operated. Visitors can freely experience e-books through the Galaxy Tab.
Samsung Electronics aims to solidify its position as the leader in foldable technology with its first Korean Unpacked event. Market research firm TrendForce forecasts that foldable phone shipments will reach 19.8 million units this year, a 55% increase from the previous year. Samsung has held an 80% market share in the foldable segment, but competition is intensifying as Chinese manufacturers and Google have recently been actively releasing products.
The Fold and Flip5 models expected to be unveiled this time feature improved hinges compared to their predecessors. According to overseas IT media and tipsters, the display fully aligns without any gaps when folded. Previously, a U-shaped hinge was used, but the new products reportedly adopt a waterdrop hinge that folds with the display curling inward. Although the waterdrop hinge has been known to be vulnerable to water resistance issues, it appears to have been improved. Additionally, the Flip5 has expanded its front cover display from 1.9 inches to 3.4 inches, allowing users to run apps such as YouTube and Maps while folded.
