The Haeundae-gu Children's Meal Management Support Center, operated by Dongseo University, was selected as the Best Center in the performance evaluation conducted by Busan City.
The Haeundae-gu Children's Meal Management Support Center was awarded the Best Center Award at the '2023 Busan City Children's Meal Management Support Center Workshop' held at Haeundae Arpina on the 30th of last month.
The 2022 evaluation of Children's Meal Management Support Centers conducted by the Busan City Health and Hygiene Division combined operational performance (60 points) and best practices (40 points). Among 14 centers in Busan City, one was selected as the Best Center and two as Excellent Centers.
In this evaluation, the Haeundae-gu Center received the Best Center Award for its picky eating improvement program, the 'Haerara Specialized Project.'
The 'Haerara Specialized Project' is a program aimed at children with high rates of picky eating, especially regarding vegetables. It provides Food Bridge education, offers guidance on meal management for picky eaters to directors, teachers, and parents, supplies self-developed recipes, and operates online cooking classes to naturally prevent picky eating among children.

The Haeundae-gu Center was established in 2013 and has been operated under consignment by Dongseo University since 2020.
The center provides tailored on-site support services for children's meal sites with fewer than 100 children and no nutritionists, including hygiene and nutrition management for healthy and safe meals, provision of menus and recipes, consulting, and dietary education tailored to different target groups.
Additionally, since the second half of 2022, the center has been entrusted with the Busan City Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center project, establishing a social welfare meal team to support safe and healthy meals and personalized nutrition management at elderly care facilities, daycare centers, and facilities for the disabled.
Center Director Lee Hyun-sook said, "This award is thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Haeundae Center staff working together as one."
She added, "The center has conducted over 90 children's education sessions, developed 12 types of recipes and picky eating education guides, and produced cooking method videos. Our center will continue to strive to improve meal support and nutritional levels for vulnerable groups in the community through specialized education programs tailored to each target group."
