Kim Byeongnae, Mayor of Gwangju Nam-gu, Presents 'Cheonse Celebration Fund' to Oldest Resident in the District

Wishing for the Longevity and Health of a 111-Year-Old Senior

Kim Byeong-nae, Mayor of Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, became the first in the nation to present a 천세 congratulatory gift to the oldest senior citizen in the district, wishing for their longevity and health, in order to promote a social atmosphere that practices filial piety.

According to Nam-gu on the 4th, Mayor Kim visited the home of A (111 years old), the first recipient of the 천세 congratulatory gift, on the afternoon of the 3rd.

A, who turned 111 this year, received a 천세 congratulatory gift of 5 million won, a commemorative plaque, and a family photo shoot voucher worth 200,000 won, based on the Act on Encouragement and Support of Filial Piety and the Nam-gu Ordinance on Encouragement and Support of Filial Piety.

The basis for supporting the 천세 congratulatory gift and other benefits is that Mayor Kim Byeong-nae fully revised the Nam-gu Ordinance on Encouragement and Support of Filial Piety upon taking office as the 8th elected mayor.

Considering the reality that the traditional value of filial piety is losing its place, he revised the related ordinance entirely to encourage the practice of filial piety at the local government level, and the ordinance has been in effect since May.

With the implementation of the fully revised ordinance, policy support such as longevity congratulatory gifts and filial piety allowances has been actively carried out.

Seniors who have lived in the district for more than five years and have reached 110 years of age according to their resident registration receive a 천세 congratulatory gift and a commemorative plaque, and in the years they reach 111 and 112, they are provided with a family photo shoot voucher worth 200,000 won and a health checkup voucher, respectively.

Additionally, seniors who have lived in the district for more than five years and have reached 100 years of age receive a longevity congratulatory gift of 1 million won and a commemorative plaque; this year, 16 seniors received the longevity congratulatory gift.

Furthermore, households where three generations live together and include seniors aged 80 or older who have resided in the district for more than five years receive a longevity filial piety allowance of 100,000 won every six months. The number of households eligible for the longevity filial piety allowance in the first half of this year was counted at 462.

Currently, there are 41 seniors aged 100 or older living in the district, including A.

Mayor Kim Byeong-nae said, “We will create a leading filial piety Nam-gu where all members of the local community practice filial piety and everyone is happy, so that the elderly residents living in the district can enjoy a joyful old age with their families.”

Meanwhile, Nam-gu has decided to provide various policy supports such as longevity congratulatory gifts and filial piety allowances, in addition to the 천세 congratulatory gift, to promote social interest in filial piety and encourage the practice of filial piety at the local government level.
